Fair warning: This is probably going to have WAY too many gifs in it, because Tatiana Maslany is pretty when she's all geeked out. Sorry not sorry.

So, this is Cosima Niehaus. (Hi, Cosima!)

Cosima comes from a TV series called Orphan Black. In it, a petty grifter named Sarah Manning has just returned to Toronto when a woman looks directly at her -- and then steps in front of a train.

This would be weird enough, but what compounds it is that the dead woman, Beth Childs, looks exactly like Sarah. Not one to miss an opportunity, Sarah rifles through Beth's purse and decides to try a little identity theft. By the end of the pilot episode, she's wearing Beth's clothes, living in Beth's apartment, banging Beth's boyfriend -- and caught up in the middle of multiple investigations involving police officer Beth. And to top it off, an identical German woman gets shot in front of her.

And from there it is off to the conspiracy races, as it were. Panicked after the German's death, Sarah answers Beth's phone and comes to meet fellow doubles Cosima, a scientist, and Alison, a suburban mom. Beth brought the three of them together via social media to try to learn why the clones were being killed. Eventually it turns out they're being assassinated by fellow clone Helena, who was raised by a religious sect called the Proletheans that sees the clones as abominations.

Sarah comes to learn the clones were created by a scientific movement called Neolution, the founder of which is based in a large company called the Dyad Institute. Because Dyad views the clones as intellectual property, it has monitored each clone for her entire life. The monitors integrate themselves into the clones' lives as lovers, relatives and close friends. Only Sarah and her identical twin Helena, whose birth mother ran from Dyad, have escaped this scrutiny.

The show's plotlines largely revolve around the pursuit of the clones by the Neolutionists and by the Proletheans, as well as the mystery of Sarah's daughter Kira, who may have special abilities of her own.

The project that created the clones turns out to be named Project Leda. Sarah, Cosima, Alison, Helena and the other clones born in 1984 were the only successful human clones; more than 400 attempts since have produced only one survivor, a young girl named Charlotte.

That said, my Cosima is 16 and precanon, so she knows none of this. Yet.

Cosima is ... well, eccentric. She loves science, tends to ramble when she gets a chance to talk about something that interests her, and speaks with her hands. But while she often seems to be chasing tangents, Cosima is firmly rooted to reality. She is brave, dependable, caring about her sisters, and driven to find the answers to even the toughest questions. She can be snarky, and is not overly respectful of authority in general.

Sometimes Cosima's overconfidence in scientific logic and her own abilities leads to trouble. For example, she intentionally pursues a relationship with fellow graduate student Delphine even after she comes to (correctly) suspect the woman is her new monitor.

Her main function in the clone club is that of a researcher. Because she's working on a doctorate in evolutionary development, she has access to lab tools that allow her to examine clone blood and DNA for clues on where they come from. She also recruits other scientists to help with the research -- often without fully explaining what's going on.

Cosima grew up in San Francisco. We don't know a lot about her background beyond that she was born via IVF and has been secretly monitored throughout her childhood. The Leverage crew has graciously agreed to keep an eye on her while she's on the island, which I'm sure will go spectacularly well.

In canon, Cosima is in love with a woman. Actress Tatiana Maslany has said she thinks Cosima's more pansexual than lesbian, which is interesting to know, but on-screen Cosima herself has never objected to being called lesbian or gay. At 16, I'd say she probably thinks of herself as bisexual but hasn't had a ton of experience either way.

Note on drug use: In canon, Cosima smokes a lot of pot. She's not an abuser or an addict -- she seems to just like it. (She says it's a San Francisco thing.) She's fairly casual about it, but OOCly I'll cut and warn for it because I know some people don't want to deal with random pot smoking.

She will, however, almost certainly become Jesse Pinkman's best customer. So.

The others (Alana, Anders and Jack) are all pretty much as they were back in January, so they don't get a fresh post.

I refuse to believe there is such a thing as too many gifs of Tatiana Maslany. Ever.

Well, no :-). If I wasn't on my phone you'd be getting about 50 more gifs here to prove the point.

As it is have one -- but she's in it twice!
